Cleaning your fireplace and your chimney is important. Getting your chimney swept with every cord or two you burn is a good rule of thumb. It is important to at least begin each fire season with a good cleaning.

– Get an annual chimney check. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned as necessary by a qualified chimney service technician.
– Keep it clear. Trim tree branches and keep leaves at least 15 feet from the top of the chimney.
– Install a chimney cap to keep debris and animals out of the chimney.
– Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house and make sure you check the batteries and replace at least twice a year.
